With an MSc in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Mauritius, he has a robust academic background. He also provided technical support for establishing specialised laboratories in Mauritius and Rodrigues (at SEMPA).
Mr. Bacha Gian has also managed numerous externally funded projects, including significant UNEP-WIOSAP and UNDP initiatives, focusing on sustainable marine practices and biodiversity assessment. An accomplished scientific writer, he has published several reports and articles, and his work has been presented at international conferences, workshops, and featured in media outlets, highlighting his commitment to marine conservation and education.
His dedication extends to training and mentoring the next generation of marine scientists, as well as having trained over 300 individuals, including fishermen, community members, NGO staff, and hoteliers, in coral restoration techniques.
